September is typically when the real estate market picks up again after the summer slowdown. But this year, the numbers tell a different story.
Across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), home sales declined compared to last September as concerns about the economy, inflation and borrowing costs continued to influence buyer decisions.
In Durham Region, new listings increased significantly from August, but sales declined. That means buyers entered the fall market with more properties to choose from, while sellers faced increased competition.
The average Durham Region sale price did increase slightly, but the growing gap between new listings and sales is the more important trend to watch.
