Aerial view of Clarington, ON and surrounding areas

Clarington, a portmanteau of the towns Clarke and Darlington, is a collection of urban and rural communities, with its largest being the town of Bowmanville.

Known for being family-friendly, this peaceful and safe Durham Region area has a rapidly growing real estate market. Clarington appeals to those who want to move away from the bustling urban centers of Toronto or Oshawa, but instead strike the perfect balance between urban and rural living.

The historic communities of Clarington have a lot to offer in terms of real estate—and provide small-town charm that is hard to come by in the surrounding cities.

Luxury By The Lake

Clarington is composed of a number of smaller communities, some of which are located in prime areas right along Lake Ontario. Wilmot Creek, Port Darlington, Port Granby, Bond Head, and Bowmanville are all found right by the waterfront.

As a result, there are a number of exclusive properties located right along the water—or just steps away from it! These properties are highly–desirable for their breathtaking views. It is, of course, something truly spectacular to wake up every morning to unobstructed views of Lake Ontario!

Areas that fall south of Newcastle (Wilmot Creek and Bond Head) have seen a lot of housing developments in recent years by the waterfront. Wilmot Creek waterfront homes tend to be newer builds, however Bond Head has older properties with a lot of charm and character. So there’s truly something for everyone’s taste!

Outdoor Lifestyle

There’s much to see and do in Clarington—especially for those who love the outdoors! Those of any age will enjoy walking by the waterfront, exploring the parks and green spaces, and trying out a variety of outdoor sports—such as skiing at Brimacombe resort in Orono!

Parks such as Samuel Wilmot Nature Area, Orono Crown Lands, and Bowmanville Westside Conservation Area are great places to spend time outdoors on a hike! There are also a number of small neighborhood parks within each community, which is great for young kids.

Golfers will enjoy the number of courses in and around the area, such as Stonehenge Golf Club, located 6 kilometers from Orono.

History and Community

There have been large efforts made by the communities in Clarington to preserve historic sites. The many museums—such as the Clarington Museums and Archives, the Sarah Jane Williams Heritage Centre, and Waverley Place—are there to educate visitors on the area’s history. As well, Clarington has other sites of cultural importance. Located in downtown Bowmanville is the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington.

Clarington recently unveiled their community mural in April 2022, which is made up of 700 individually-painted tiles by residents and groups from the area. The municipality also has a board dedicated to conservation: Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committees (LACAC). Clarington also holds a great number of community events throughout the year.

Families enjoy Clarington for its safety and security, its quiet streets, and its numerous schools. Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board primarily services the areas of Clarington, with over 20 schools within this region.
