Our phones are on us pretty much 24/7. They’re likely the first thing you check when you wake up, and the last thing you check before you go to sleep. Why wouldn’t you use it to make your life easier?

From transit to food, there are simple ways that you can better connect with your community. So whether you’re new to the area or just spending some time in the Durham Region, here are a few apps that will help make your life more convenient.

Ridesharing and Delivery Apps

If you’re new to the Durham Region or even to Ontario, you might wonder which apps are most popular for ridesharing and delivery. By far, Uber (and by extension Uber Eats) and Lyft are the most frequently used in the area, as well as DoorDash and SkipThe Dishes.

However, if you are looking for alternatives for food delivery, keep in mind that many restaurants have their own apps, and sometimes offer their own delivery service.

Local Durham Region Apps

Keeping up with what’s happening in Durham Region is easy with the use of a variety of local apps. Durham Region Waste is a favourite of many. This app lets residents know when waste is being picked up in their neighbourhood. You can also get information on what can and cannot be recycled or thrown away. Plus, you can easily set reminders for waste pickup.

News apps such as CP24, CityNews, CBC News, and more are great for keeping updated on province- or Canada-wide events. But for those looking to keep updated on a smaller, more local level, too, Durham Radio News offers just that.

There are, as well, apps specifically for the post-secondary institutions in the area. Durham College Mobile, for example, keeps students up-to-date on what is going on around campus and allows students to access their student account.

Durham Region Entertainment Apps

With a wide variety of choices for radio stations both for Durham Region and the GTA, you’re always able to listen to the songs you love. While music streaming apps such as Spotify or Apple Music are well-known options, there are also a number of radio apps available.

Durham Region has several local radio stations. KX947 FM plays Country, while 94.9 The Rock plays Rock, respectively. Both stations have their own apps available to download.

Durham Region Transit Apps

If you’re a frequent rider of public transit, you know that it’s sometimes difficult to get around—especially when your trip is unplanned. Forget those dark times of trying to look up the bus schedule in your web browser. Durham Region has several apps that will let you know exactly what time the bus or train is arriving at your stop. These apps include Durham Region Transit Bus, Go Transit Bus, Triplinx, and more.

While some may take an Uber or other ridesharing service, there are also taxis as a traditional alternative. Blueline Taxi Durham can help connect you with a taxi to get you exactly where you need to go.
